Why do many Filipinos overlook insurance despite the financial risks they face? JD Julve discusses the importance of insurance, financial literacy, risk management, and protecting vehicles and other assets from unexpected costs. Discover practical insights on choosing coverage and building a more secure financial future.
JD: 80% of the community hindi pa masyadong knowledgeable sa insurance.
Philippe: Ang daling mag-financing ng Honda Click. Giorno, ang dali lang. Do they think of insuring it?
JD: So out of 10 people na tinanong namin magi-insured na sa amin diyan dalawa. The number one reason is either namamahalan sila.
Narrator: Today we sit down with JD Julve, chairman of Uni Vanguard Insurance Agency Inc. He’s a seasoned business owner and a key figure in the non-life insurance industry bringing years of expertise in protecting businesses and individuals alike.
JD: P8,000 for the insurance.
Pag hinuli ka nga eh license, insurance and registration. Pag wala kang insurance.
Philippe: I’m obliged to be Vanguard’s ano, client, one of their clients. Yeah. And saan yung office? Saan yung office niyo dito sa QC?
JD: QC isa sa sa Fairview no. Technically nandon kami sa may Lagro. No Lagro. So nandon na kami no. If you know the Landbank Lagro, we’re in the fifth floor of one Rebtrade building. So yun yung ano namin.
Philippe: Well, I’ll be happy to visit.
JD: Yeah. Maganda doon. Mare-relax ka sa office ko, promise.
Philippe: Wow. And every time I’m in Lagro, I have to go to Vanguard.
JD: Yeah. Yeah. You have to go don. Kape tayo doon. Kape.
Philippe: Pwede. Pwede. My next question is for our audience of course. The most generic question that people ask. So magkano ang premium? For example, bumili ako ng isang bagong BYD let’s say Sealion right sedan or yung ano ba yung SUV nila yung BYD yung pinasa Sealion 5 or…
JD: Yeah, Sealion 5
Philippe: 5, yun. So for example nakabili ng ganon. Normally what’s the range of the insurance premium and the coverage itself?
JD: Yeah. Based on the last na nakita kong the policy namin, parang range about 25,000 to 30,000 only. Mataas pa yung rate, no? Especially ng electric bill. Ako rin right now ‘yun nga bumili kami ng electric vehicle.
Pero the reason why na medyo ‘yung mataas pa yung presos, it is because number one, no, the casa or the manufacturers are still na nagfi-figure out on how they will put the parts dito sa Pilipinas ng madali.
Kaya we have to ah balance everything no para sa kanila din
That’s why ang insurance provider what they did is to put the rates na medyo mataas for the meantime while they are still waiting
JD: for the association ng mga automotive to figure out paano mapapadala dito sa Pilipinas yung parts. And yun yung reason. But again, the advantage of Univangard is we have partner na nasa Amadeo, Cavite na which is by the way we met already yung group ng Bafang sa China. Bafang is one of the biggest parang parts distributor and educator siya sa China
wherein ang goal nila is padaliin yung lahat ng transaction in terms of the parts and education ng electric vehicle. Murakami is part of Bafang. Nandun sila. Now what we did, the partnership between the Murakami and Vanguard our goal for the next quarter is to educate and market na na madali na ang piyesa ngayon.
JD: Kasi yung sa China they can easily get the parts eh na mabilis outside the casa. So they have the connections, they have the immediate action plans on how they will get the parts ng mga electric vehicles because 70 to 80% ng electric vehicles natin dito sa Pilipinas is coming from the China.
Meron lang tayong Vinfast no which is Vietnam. So the other products is ano even Xiaomi nga eh. Alam mo yung Xiaomi, yung cellphone?
Philippe: The car or the phone?
JD: The phone. And they have car already na papasok sa atin ‘ ba. So the technology sa China is really big. Maganda na for me maganda. The problem is paano lang natin kukunin yung piyesa doon papunta dito? Because the shipment cost is medyo mataas. So with the help of Murakami kaya nilang pabilisin yung parts papunta dito sa atin with the help din ng Bayfang.
And they are very educated on how they will handle the electric vehicles and kami iyong enofficial partner nila part kami non nung partnership na iyon so advantage yun sa amin because we are also learning from them ano yung mga pwede naming ituro sa mga tao na naka-electric.
JD: Now kaya pang mataas pa yung premium as of now kasi nga yun yung biggest challenge ng most of the insurance provider now anong trabaho namin as an agency as partner ng Murakami. We are doing our very best to educate din also yung mga insurance provider that these are the companies na pwede nating katulong just to less the cost of those parts para
Pero in terms naman sa mga let’s say mga ibang brand for example Toyota for example the best car no na nandito sa Pilipinas is Toyota Vios for example. Siguro ang cost lang non is around 13 to 15,000 for this year next year bababa na naman yun so ganun lang naman yung insurance premium.
Philippe: When you say let’s go back with the pricing you said for an electric car, 25 to 30,000 are we talking monthly or is this one year na?
JD: No, it’s a one year.
Philippe: Okay
JD: They can pay for 3 months so pwedeng payable but they can also pay into cash so depende kung ano iyung capabilities nung may-ari.
Philippe: So pag Toyyota Vios it’s like you said?
JD: 13 to Php15,000. You can pay for 3 months to pay without zero interest or zero interest yun.
Philippe: Ang baba pala.
JD:Mababa ang insurance. Mababa naman talaga in reality.
Philippe: Kasi peace of mind naman yan eh if you have that insurance.
JD: Yeah. But the biggest challenge is of course yun nga hindi pa tayo ganon ka-educated on that part.
Philippe: Balik tayo sa Vios. 13 to 15,000. Ano iyung coverage non?
JD: Full coverage. Let’s say the value is 560,000 for the 2025 Toyota Vios for example. Tapos for example naman mabangga sumabog yung airbag they are considering it as total loss the insurance you will get 560. So ganun siya.
Now for the property damage you have 200,000 for VIP dito. So body injury and also yung PA which is yung mga sakay nung sa loob non you will get at least 50,000 per head. Yun yung coverage yon.
Philippe: Wow may ano pa.
JD: Yeah yun talaga , meron talaga.
Philippe: So may kasamang life sa nonlife.
JD: Yeah. Yeah. Pag ano niya may halimbawa yung P50,000 makukuha mo yun with the specific.
So yun yung may mga specific. You will get additional Php50,000. So yun yung ano pero pag injured lang let’s say medical reimbursement lang so maliit lang.
Philippe: Maliit lang.
JD: Oo.
Philippe: Okay.
JD: So ganon pero meron pa rin.
Philippe: So how long? Okay. Let’s say nakabili akong kotse let’s say nakabili ako ng Vios right now. Okay. And I paid 15,000 for example. So the coverage covers everything. Nakabangga ako the next day. Is it covered?
JD: Yeah. The next day. For example, bumili ka ng Vios kaninang 6 a.m. second hand let’s say bili mo walang insurance.
Pina-insured mo sa akin. JD insured mo na tong sasakyan ko. Okay. Do you know that your insurance will be activated during the time ng 12 noon pa lang? Paano pag nabangga ka ng 10:00?
Philippe: Hindi hindi pa active.
JD: Hindi siya active.
Philippe: Oo.
JD: So hindi safe yung 6 a.m., 2 hanggang 12. Now, your policy is magiging active kapag 12 noon. So from that point kung ngayong araw ano ba ngayon, 8? So kung August 8, 12 noon up to August 8 2027 12 noon siya. So ganon.
There are may mga ganitong nangyayari. That’s why the reason kung anong part ng ginagawa namin with Vanguard security is if you’re going to insured your unit to us, you will send us the four sides
JD: picture ng unit, even videos with date. Let’s say lalagyan mong date today, August 8. Pi-picturan mo ‘yun, vi-videohan mo ‘yun.
Philippe: Paano kung internal ‘yung problema? For example ‘yung bumigay because second hand na siya, bumigay na. Do you guys have clauses for when we give you a certain premium if model from let’s say 2000 to 2010 and 2011 pataas? Meron ba kayong ganon?
JD: Actually ano in terms of mechanical problem, the insurance is, will not cover the mechanical problem. Kasi the insurance, let’s say sa health insurance, ano ba kino-cover? Our health no? Pag magpapa-insurance ka nga ng I think health insurance, I don’t know kailangan mo pa ng physical checkup eh. Right? It’s the same with the nonlife, no.
If you’re going to ensure your car, they have to check first no the year models. Pero kapag nagka mechanical problem, they will not cover it. For example, naputol yung belt, dumedire-diretso.
Kasi baka naman kaya nagkaroon ng aksidente kasi as car owners it’s our obligation na alagaan yung sasakyan natin ‘ ba.
Kaya nga may tinatawag na PMS guys, magp-PMS kayo huwag niyong gawing biro ‘yan kasi pag nagkaroon ng problema yan ‘ ba aksidente yan. Now going back with your question again. Let’s say 2009 Honda Jazz. Love Honda Jazz. I love Honda. Yun talaga yun Honda.
JD: Honda lover ako eh. Alam ni Misis yan. Pero how many years na? 15, 14 I think ba. Nako-cover pa rin siya. Yes. As long as makita nila na roadworthy pa yung sasakyan, that’s okay.
Philippe: Pero yung premium mas mataas?
JD: Yep. Medyo, medyo. Kasi nga why another ‘yun nga sasabihin ko because of ‘yung ano natin parts availability is the biggest problem. Kasi 2009 imagine.
Philippe: Wala ng parts.
JD: Mahirap ng humanap. Possible umorder sila sa ibang bansa or possible humanap pa sila. So same issues with the bagong-bago, parts availability. Now if nagkaroon ng tenure yung isang sasakyan let’s say 24, 25, 26, yan pwede yan.
For example with the Ford parang Ford Everest for example may mga Gen 4 ata Gen 3.
Baka akala niyo kahit Toyota. Ang Honda nga eh. ‘Yung may Honda City kami 22, 23, 24, 26, 4 years na yung Honda namin. O, ang hirap humanap ng piyesa right now.
Inabot kami ng 2 months before namin na-receive yung parts.
JD: Even sa Banaue challenging. Pero if you will look at the parts ng mga sasakyan na very difficult din. Sa Pampangga ka hahanap. Ganun yun. So very difficult siya.
Philippe: In your point of view, in your perspective, what’s syempre madami tayong ikaw car enthusiast ang hilig mo sa Honda Jazz diba? Ako din I like I like big cars, I like. Now in terms of practicality and for someone who wants a car only, what’s the best?
To get a secondhand car or because of sabi mo yung parts nga yung mga luma ang hirap ng parts. So is there somewhere in between na okay naman, your perspective? You personally.
JD: Oh sige baka i-bash niyo ako ah. Pero it’s my perspective. Alam mo bro, ito yung story. Nakuha ko yung Honda Jazz way back 2022. It’s our second car na mag-asawa. Baldog. You remember the Baldog?
Kasi nagba-buy and sell din ako eh. So yun ang tawag namin dun. Baldog yung nakuha kong sasakyan. Sabi sa akin, “Well maintained.”
JD: Gumastos ako ng around 200,000 just to make sure na roadworthy yung kotse. Imagine 200,000. Magkano ko binili?
Philippe: How much mo binili?
JD: 400, 300?
Nakaganyan yung kotse namin. Nakatagilid oh. 2018 yun na year model.
Wala akong time para magpaayos. Although dati nung binata ko may time ako eh. Number two, additional gastos sa akin eh. Very challenging para sa akin.
And at the same time yung peace of mind mo yun yung hindi kasi nababayaran eh. Remember nung binili namin yung Everest masayang masaya kaming mag-asawa. Masaya kami. So masayang masaya as in ganda nung Everest.
Baka mabudol pa kayo diyan pag hindi kayo masyadong knowledgeable on how to fix nung sasakyan.
Pero peace of mind ako na ginagamit ko yung sasakyan everyday nung wala akong nagiging problema. for the next 5 years, imagine.
Philippe: 5 years pa no?
JD: Yun yung peace of mind na meron ako. I just need to uh PMS follow doon sa booklet or yung sa mga advices kung ilang kung kada kilometers. I have to make the car reliable kasi hindi naman kaya ng kotse sarili niyang gawing reliable yung sarili niya eh. It’s a relationship between the man and the machine. Eh ganun talaga yun diba?
Philippe: Ang galing. Gusto kong i-quote si JD.
JD: Sa automotive. Yun yung lagi kong sinasabi. It’s a relationship between the man and the machine. Meaning hindi hindi nagse-selfheal yung sasakyan. It’s our obligation as owner para hindi na tayo makadamay. Isipin mo preno. Ayaw mong palitan ‘yung preno. Tas nakadamay ka toos papasagutin mo insurance.
Eh in reality ikaw naman may kasalanan. We have to be very careful din as car owners. We have to be ano pa rin. Tingnan natin yung aspeto na yon.
Philippe: Practical din no?
JD: Practical at the same time huwag ka namang damay. Kung magtitipid ka huwag kang magkotse. Diba? Magastos ang kotse in reality.
Philippe: Yeah. Hindi naisip yung maintenance. malaki insurance lahat.
JD: Ang mahal magkotse sa Pilipinas in reality and we have to be very prepared at all cost. Diba? Ayaw mag-insurance you have enough money pag may nabangga ka to cover yung lahat ng maging specs and that’s okay. That’s okay ba?
So going back with the maintenance side is our obligation. Huwag nating huwag natin anu isugal na paandarin mo yan tos hindi naka-maintain yan. Hindi makakadamay ka pa diyan eh.
Philippe: Na you’re 100% true kasi everyone who buys a car hindi nila iniisip yung, yung ang dami din madadami if you don’t maintain your car.
JD: Yeah. Yeah.
Philippe: Can you tell us what are the normally may mga challenges when it comes to getting insurance and what are the requirements? So for example, I am a, I am a consumer who bought let’s say a VinFast car. Sabihin natin pinaka ano iyung cute na VinFast? VF3.
JD: VF7. VF7 ba yan? VF7 VF.
Philippe: Medyo malaki na yun. Medyo ano yung VF3 yung cute.
JD: Ah BF3. Sorry. The BF3 pala yung pinakamaliit yung
Philippe: Oo. Let’s say bumili ako ng VF3. Magkano siya? Nasa 600,000 plus subscription. I don’t I don’t know what. When I get that car and then gusto ko siyang i-insure, let’s say go to vanguard, magkano kailangan kong i’insure to? What’s the premium for this?
JD: Okay. For example, in the 600,000,for the BF3, it’s around let’s say Php20,000 for example
Philippe: Per year?
JD: Per year. All you have to do is to send us, for example, kare-relist mo lang ngayon. Send us the ano lang DR or the delivery receipt lang. You don’t need to send pictures for for ngayon pa kasi it’s brand new. For the next year, the requirements needed lang is the OR CR and the foursides picture of unit. Just need to send it to us. Every year naman, bro the the cars are depreciating for 10% eh.
That’s every year. So if you’re you get the BF3 for about 653, you just need to less 10% of it. Yun then that’s the value for the next year. Then magbababa rin yung premium. Let’s say from 20,000 it will be 18,000. Tapos the following year pababa ng pababa up to until 5, 6, 7, hanggang 10. So every year ang depreciation value natin is 10% sa Pilipinas. So ganun yun. Habang bumababa yyung price, bumababa of course yung premium.
Philippe: That’s that’s great information. Nobody tells us this.
JD: Yep.
Philippe: So 10% more or less, no?
JD: Yeah, 10%.
Philippe: From from a brand new.
JD: Yeah.
Philippe: Ngayon when it comes to let’s say sabihin natin after 5 years nakabili ako ng 5year model. Let’s say I bought ano ba yun? 2026. Let’s say I bought a 2021 model car. So yung premium yun is
JD: Mas mababa
Philippe: Minus 50% kasi 5 years na.
JD: Actually do napapasok yung tinatawag na “fair market value. Sa industriya ng automotive we call it FMB or the fair market value. Magkano yung bentahan sa merkado? For example if you will get a 2021 Toyota Fortuner for example G automatic so the cost is around Php800,000 to Php900,000. So from that ang insurance is around Php15,000 to 20,000 let’s say. So ganun yun.
So ang computation magv-vary pa rin on the value ng sasakyan this year. Kahit na syempre pag 10% 10% 10% hanggang dulo bababa ng husto yung value ng sasakyan no. Parang hanggang 5 year madala, sa 5 years ang madalas 50% or ano eh yun ang yun ang depreciation eh. Pero pag 6, 7, 8, na may mga sasakyan na nagi-stay yung price for the longest time depende sa kung anong sasakyan yon.
JD: Let’s say bakit do na kasi tinitingnan natin ng ng merkado ng mga buyer o ng mga Pilipino or yung mga owners. Let’s say yung kotse bang binili mo 5 years ago is reliable ‘ ba 5 years ago paano mo mina-maintain yung sasakyan na yan o sino nag-maintain nung kotse na yan? Next is ah gaano ka okay pa no yung interior yung itsura ‘di ba ‘yun ‘yung mga tinitingnan kasi dun eh So sa buy and sell world yun ang tinitingnan nila.
O halimbawa ah 2021 o kung kunin namin yang 700 we will sell it 900 for example. That’s those are the prices. And most of the buy and sell mine-make sure nila na maayos yung sasakyan so they can sell na mas malaki.
Philippe: Iba talaga pag Toyota no?
JD: I don’t know. Toyota sabi ko nga sabi ko nga kay misis ano eh ah ibang iba ang ano ng Toyota pag naka-Toyota ka na parang hirap umalis sa kanya pero dahil naman sa nangyayari ngayon parang kailangan mo munang umalis muna for the meantime and then balik ka sa kanya. Toyota’s reliability talaga
Philippe: To me it’s number one because lahat namang dumaan saakin na Toyota basta maintain properly not a no issue at all.
JD: Di na nila poproblemahin ng Toyota the best.
Philippe: Tapos tapos if we if if you look at marketplace right now okay if you look at a land cruiser na let’s say 2018 for example and then we look at like a Ford Expedition na 2018 din
JD: Ibang value
Philippe: Ito parang 900,000 Ford Expedition yung Land Cruiser parang nasa 2.8 Hindi hindi bumababa yung value.
JD: Pero ah they are in the same category ba they are the same. Pero pa kung ako titingnan ah aesthetic the way it looks, the way kumbaga the performance of the car, I’ll go with the Ford.
Philippe: Yes.
JD: Pero Filipinos are looking for the reliability of that car. Kaya ba ako niyan itawid pa ng plus 5 years? Yeah. Plus 10 years.
Talagang nilalakihan nila eh. Ba?
Philippe: Good point. Sabi mo offroad.
JD: Actually no. No? Dumadagdag dapat siya sa value. Okay. Paano? Most of the halimbawa sinetup mo ‘yung for example ‘yung LC mo. Sinetup sinetup mo. Lagyan mo ng mags, springs and everything lahat and so and so forth. ginawa mong pang-offroad ‘ ba for example pa coverage non?
As long as guys, as long as i-kip niyo ‘yung resibo ng pinagbilhan ninyo, you can add it on the value of the car and then it will be added on the policy. It will be endorse added to the policy and all of the accessories will be covered.
It will be added on the value of the unit. Doon ulit kocomputin yung insurance policy mo. Ganun siya.
Philippe: So talagang based sa sa total amount the value itself it doesn’t matter kung brand new siya or upgraded siya it’s still the value.
JD: Yeah. The value. Ina-add lang siya doon. Ina-add lang siya.
Philippe: So yung mga nagre-restore ng mga classic cars na talagang in-upgrade na roadworthy hindi lang performance wise, okay, it’s still.
JD: Yes, it’s is still insurable pa rin naman pero it is subject for approval.
Philippe: Approval
JD: Because there’s still uh the insurance wanted to see pa rin iyung unit. Ito iyung biggest challenge sa Pilipinas eh. I have a friend na meron siyang Mustang na parang 1968. I don’t know.
Nalabas niya. Now in the US daw sabi niya, “Alam mo ba sa America pag nilabas ko ngayong Sabado, I can ensure the car today ng 12 noon hanggang Monday ng 12 noon.” So yung Sabado at linggo ko pwedeng i-cover.
Sabi niya now sa Pilipinas sabi niya paano nangyayari sabi ko bro wala pa masyadong gumagawa dito wala pa talaga in reality hindi pa ganun no.
JD: Merong tinatawag doon na may kausap ako na isang insurance provider ang tawag namin doun is sa pro rata rate.So baka possible na no na gawin yung ah Sabado halimbawa Sabado mo siya or linggo isang araw mo lang i-insured yung sasakyan.
Philippe: So parang travel insurance
Philippe: Yung parang cobra something yeah ano
Mclaine: Si Eleanor
Depende.
Philippe: Parang interesting.
JD: Sa Pilipinas wala pa eh. Kasi ang cover ang coverage natin dito 1 year. Hindi ko naman ginagamit yung kotse no. That’s the biggest question. No one is accepting it yet. Pero meron ng possible na gumawa. So baka si Vanguard malay natin.
Philippe: I’m not sure if you get this type of question. Let’s say bumili ako ng sasakyan. Let’s say brand new. I bought like let’s give a Geely car for example. I bought it. I use it for 3 months. Ininsure ko. And within the 3 months nagsawa na ako. I want another car. Binenta ko. Paano iyung insurance coverage since bayad na ako for the whole year?
JD: Okay.
Philippe: Transferable.
JD: As long as this is the challenge, no, we have to look pa rin on the legality side of it. For example, bumili ka ng GLX2, you bore it in cash, ‘di ba? So technically the ORCRs is already nasa yun na. Yeah.
So right now kapag nasa ‘yun na ‘yun, you have the right if you’re going to sell it, the buyer has a right to transfer it sa LTO through sa under sa pangalan nila. Now, pag na-transfer sa pangalan nila and that’s the time na pwede nilang i-endorse yung insurance policy under their name endorsement.
JD: As long as the ORCR is already nakuha na nila and the transfer na through their name, pwede na nilang i-endorse yung insurance policy. So, pwede yun. Pwede.
Philippe: Is it pwede with Vanguard only or it’s
JD: Actually, the the whole industry can do that. The whole industry. Now, here’s another challenge., Binili mo yun ng naka-financing. Okay. Now, technically ang pagmamay-ari ng sasakyan is nasa na kanino pa? Bangko. Sa bangko. Nasa financing. At the original ORCRj is nasa na kanino? Nasa financing.
You cannot transfer the car, the name of the car doon sa ano sa tawag dito doon sa bagong buyer. And you hindi mo pwedeng benta iyung sasakyan mo kapag naka-financing naka-financing. That’s the reality. Dito nauuso iyung tinatawag na mga pasalo.
Philippe: Yun nga na
JD: Which is bawal in the industry sa sa Pilipinas.
Philippe: And risky ‘ ba?
JD: And risky. And risky.
Philippe: Risky sa gumawa non.
JD: Risky sa may-ari kasi bakit ‘ ba? You have to give it back doon sa bangko. That’s the right thing ‘ ba.
So technically ganun siya no yun yung pwede at may hindi pwede. Okay? Pwede siya as long as you have the original ORCR that you can transfer to LTO under your name and you have to endorse it on the insurance provider.
Gagawa lang naman tayong endorsement letter eh that this previous owner is already binenta yung sasakyan and this is the new owner and the policy will be transferred.
Philippe: Transferred. So kung may remaining 7 months
JD: Yup.
Philippe: Okay ah
JD: Pwedeng i-endorse endorsement letter lang siya. Kaya nga may tinatawag na dapat meron tayong ano deeod of sale, deed of sale on it tapos dapat naka-transfer na. Pag hindi pa naman naka-transfer, notarized deed of sale is already accepted para palitan yung pangalan nung insurance policy.
Pero pag naka-financing guys ha, we do not recommend to sell your card to another person tapos ike-claim niyo yung ah or ita-transfer yung ownership kasi hindi kayo papayagan na insurance. Technically, pagmamay-ari pa kasi yun ng bangko eh. So inaano natin, dina-drive natin pero hindi pa tayo may-ari. Ganun siya. Yun ang reality.
Philippe: We’re talking about four wheels. Let’s talk about two wheels. Start tayo. Start tayo sa sa Masa.
JD: Okay.
Philippe: Let’s talk about Honda Clicks. Oo. Insurance premium.
JD: 5,000 to PH8,000.
Philippe: Wow. Kadalasan ng mga okay I’m not sure about the stats. Naiisip ba ng mga bumibili lalo yung mga kamote, mga ano, mag-insure or the the average Filipino do they think of ensuring it?
JD: Out of 100% bro, there are only based on the statistics na meron kami, if sa amin titingnan mo out of 10 people ang knowledgeable lang na mag-insurance na tinatanong namin kasi we’ve been into the mga events eh. For example, mga motorcycle events ba sumasama-sama kami.
Kaya mas mabilis yung ano namin transition namin eh. So out of 10 people na tinanong namin ang mag-i-insured lang sa amin diyan dalawa.
Philippe: Gosh.
JD: Imagine 80% of the community hindi pa masyadong knowledgeable sa insurance. Not because number one reason ha, not because hindi nila gusto. Okay. The number one reason is medyo may alam na daw sila pero hindi nila alam magkano yung presyo either namamahalan sila. Imagine bro if you’re if you are going to get an Php8,000 for the insurance.
Pero hindi nila naisip na kapag nakabangga ka madalas most of the accidents ngayon kaya galit na galit si JB Suarez diyan eh ba galit na galit yun kausap ko talaga siya pikon na pikon siya kasi nga ‘di ba we are the Filipinos tend to ano eh tipirin yung mga bagay not knowing na kapag nagkaroon pa ng problema mas malaki pa yung babayaran nila.
JD: That’s the biggest problem and they’re not yet educated. So isa ‘yun hindi naman nila alam magkano yung policy. Pag bumili kami diyan paano paano mag-claim. Ay hayaan mo na yun.
Philippe: In your in your personal opinion, isn’t LTO supposed dapat mandated na yan o dapat o aralin niyo na kung CPT CPT what CTPL is mandatory diba? hindi dapat third party or insurances just like yours right dapat mandatory as well kasi safety and protection
JD: Actually ano it’s an economical challenges din if we are going to implement rules just like that you know that the Filipinos are going to bakit nire-rep ba
Philippe: well whether meron o wala ba youl still complain
JD: Diba? So ah those are still no the biggest siya kasi imagine ha ito ah ang ganda nung implementation ng I’m not pro government you know sometimes ako rin nagrereklamo din ako for the government pero imagine nung time na ini-implement yung lahat ng tao mas go to before sila magkalisensya they must go to parang schools
Philippe: Yeah
JD: Driving schools theoretical schools diba? They must have the certificates imagine nag-aangalan yung mga tao ba nag-aangalan puch* ano ba ‘ ba bro ba pare ‘di ba ang kulit pero imagine kung ano yung matutulong sa atin nung ganon and the second na ganon nagkakaroon ng anomalya.
Maraming mangyayari kapag ah we are going to implement something and that’s the biggest challenge sa atin. Hindi lang siya alam mo kung in reality kung i-implement yang safety na yan ay kung ako negosyante pabor saakin there will be a lot of big players diyan baka mamaya may mga malalaking kumpanya magtayo na ng sarili nilang they are capable of
Philippe: Ano iyung mandatory stencil smoke
So magkano yung 500? Around 30,000 20?
JD: Yan. Totoo yun. That’s the right term. Bawal mo ilabas yun. Illegal ‘yan doun. Talaga? Risky na masyado ‘yan. So ganun din yun sa Pilipinas if we’re going to implement yun a lot of challenges baka hindi rin and matagal imagine nga yung increase ng sweldo eh.
January no ba typically if you’re doing the business alam mo dapat no hindi ko napansin yung HR alam ako hindi ko alam na mag-i-increase pala nung ngayon.Tapos biglang hinold eh nag-announce na kami. Weird ‘di ba? So hindi siya hindi pa gann kaayos din. maraming ah economical problem, rules and regulation and Filipino loves iyung parang ano eh yung parang compromise
Philippe: Always.
Laging may excuse eh. Pwede naman ano yan eh. Baka pwedeng ano naman yan alam mo as as the ano natin kailangan maraming bagay na dapat baguhin is it tayo ba as citizen or the government or the private sectors mahirap pa siyang gawin pero kung ako tatanungin in my perspective if we are going to implement iyung mandatory insurance even life even ano I’ll do it. Kailangan siya diba? Even HMOs let’s do it.
Philippe: Kailangan kailangan. Okay. 100% agree.
Pero which is reality, it’s part of the safety kasi mataas na nga yung road accidents ‘di ba? So
Philippe: Mahaba-habang
JD: Mahabang discussion yan bro kasi ano talaga siya no maraming issues din tulad non no maraming loop holes din yung NCAP. So advantage is ah male-lessen yung mga lagay-lagay. So that’s it. Pero in reality maraming loopholes.
” So medyo umo okay naman. What I mean is hindi lang pa ganun kaayos yung lahat ng sistema sa Pilipinas.
JD: So if we are going to implement another thing known what they call gastos. Diba? Tulad ng insurance sabi nga nila gastos yan mahaba-habang diskusyon yan brother. Yun nga sabi ko nga sayo no not because of ano diba syempre nagnenegosyo natural may profit kami. Yes.
We are going to create another mga trabaho diba pero in the end of the day mahirap siya i-educate sa Pilipino pag hindi pa tayo fully aware and fully system yung systemize yung programs natin dito maraming issues.
Philippe: You’re in the business of protection in my point of view. Kasi okay you profit on it
JD: Yup
Philippe: But it’s also their protection their life.
JD: Yeah. Their life.
Philippe: Their convenience lahat.
JD: Yes. So hindi rin ako tatawid doon eh. ba the good thing no and also yung ginagawa ng mga insurance principles ngayon they’re creating
something na makakatulong sa mga micro let say tulad sa mga tricycle drivers ini-insure na nila with the alpha insurance. So good thing then there are programs pero hindi pa ganon full talaga so mahirap pa
Philippe: Yung when it comes to like tricycle driver meron nga ano eh I remembered kasi we used to have some projects with uh the government of Quezon City. Parang it’s
JD: Personal accident.
Philippe: Personal accident. And it’s very affordable, you know.
JD: Php200 lang ata yun sa
Philippe: Yeah. And then okay you get 50,000. Actually malaki 50,000 ‘di ba?
JD: Yeah yeah, oo,
Philippe: Iyong mga konsehal dito they give it around you know which is which is quite good. So ang ganda ng program. It’s just yung iba sinasabi, “Ah, maganda siya pero yung ang hirap i-claim. ” So that’s a different topic. Pero it’s a good thing na meron pa din like you said. Tama. Ang dami kailangang improvements.
JD: Even the private sector of insurance diba?
Philippe: Yes.
JD: Kasi ang nonlife insurance is not an investment sa kanila eh. Katulad sa life na they can give you whatever the amount you need. Kasi nga may investment yun eh. Diba merong tinatawag na traditional and merong isa eh. Nakalimutan ko yung isa.
Philippe: VUL.
JD: Yeah. VUL, yeah.
So very challenging diba? So another set of issues na naman siya that will lead us to a lot of topics ‘ ba. But yeah, that’s the reality.
If for example if the IC can give the nonlife insur, insurer the opportunity na magkaroon ng certain investment for that that’s okay. So maraming factors din silang tinitingnan iyung insurance commission and then the entire industry.
Philippe: And I think we need people like you to help educate let’s say the, the people with buying power because for example meron I’m sure maraming kakilala bibili ng panibagong Honda Click.
O so yun so yun pa yung pinamimigay ang factors din
Philippe: I have one last question for you um This is a personal question.
JD: Yep.
Philippe: Can you tell us because since you’ve been doing this business and it looks like it’s doing well, it’s flourishing. Can you tell us your most valuable life lesson?
JD: Marami. Pero life lesson in terms of doing business, trust your gut. I’ve been through a lot of naka-encounter na tao in the industry, outside the industry. Kala mo totoo. And trust your wife, believe me, 100%.
Whatever it takes, bro, believe in me. Sinasabi ko sa kanya ‘yun kasi bakit? Realize if I have my wife sa tabi ko, lahat nung ganun na na-encounter ko sa paligid na tinatarantado ako, alam niya the first plate, huwag yan tatarantaduhin ganyan. Eh ako excited e. O sige that’s that’s the reality of business.
So nandiyan siya. So that’s life lesson bro. Believe me, if you are doing the business, trust your wife. Yun. Yun.
Philippe: The best advice that a guy can give.
JD: Yeah, yeah. No one will advise you na, diba sabihin nila hard work beats hard.. it’s all shit. Believe in me. If you have your wife, trust your wife. Whatever na sasabihin niya, you have to trust it because that’s the reality nung mangyayari. May ano yan eh.
Philippe: Iba yung ano nila eh.
JD: Iba yung feeling nila.
Philippe: Instinct.
JD: Instinct yan.
Philippe: Sir JD
JD: Thank you so much brother for inviting.
Philippe: You are, grabe grabe. Very resourceful
JD: Yeah, yeah.
Philippe: Very. it’s you give us a lot of clarity talaga.
