Maps: A healthy active lifestyle is 80% nutrition, 20% exercise, and 100% mindset. No matter how much exercise you do, it’s only 20%.

If you’re eating healthy for the 80%, you’re actually gonna get to your health goals faster than just doing the 20% exercise alone.

Maps: Hi, I’m Max Pangan, so I’m a Transformation and Nutrition Coach, Herbalife Independent Distributor. I basically help people get healthier. I basically help Boss Babes and Alpha Executives get healthier and wealthier, and help them live their best lives.

Philippe: And what about the misconceptions about being healthy, eating healthy, exercises for individuals? That misconception were, ang mahal naman pag healthy.

Maps: Before I even got into fitness, sabi ko, ano nga, kailangan ko ba magshop sa healthy options lang yung ganoon? That’s expensive. Then I realized, it all goes down to the basics.

Say rice, or chicken, or fish, na kahit lutong bahay lang, that’s already cheaper than having to eat out or buy all sorts of things.

Philippe: Another misconception is, what about time? Wala akong time.

Maps: If you don’t have time for your health and wellness, how will you have time for your sickness?

Philippe: For the typical Filipino, someone who is a minimum wage, but is overweight, unhealthy, unfit, can you give a few tips and advice on how they can start?

Maps: I would say…

Philippe: So, what was the turning point, like when you said, Oh, I want to get into, you know, health and wellness, and I want to start advising people, giving them some advice on what to eat, what to do, nutrition and all that. So, what was that light bulb moment?

Maps: Okay, perfect question. Because that’s where my story actually began. How I got into fitness was through heartbreak. Yun. But prior to that muna, just a little backstory on myself. Like, when I was in high school, I was already an athletic, sporty person.

So, I was into tennis. So, parang fitness was no problem to me. It’s natural. Then, of course, I started working. I was gaining a lot of weight na because, you know, unhealthy, sedentary lifestyle. And I was in this long-term relationship with my ex. Like, we were together for eight years.

Maps: Alam mo yung parang feeling na, oh, baka ito na to. We already put up a business. Kulang nalang we got married and stuff like that. So, we had a small business. And then, right when the pandemic happened, he cheated on me.

So, that’s where it started. And then, I was like, when that heartbreak happened, I couldn’t help but think, I just want to be better. Like, how? I don’t know. I just want to be better. And then, my best friend was the one who said, Hey, Maps, mag-workout tayo.

Maps: Kahit through Zoom lang. Like, let’s just work out. So, parang nilabas ko lahat ng energy ko and rage. Working out, just having this revenge body mindset. So, I did nothing but workout, workout, workout every day. And that kinda made me feel good.

Because it felt, like, empowering. Tapos nun, parang three weeks into it, I lost 13 pounds. That’s big, right? And then, I thought to myself, buti na lang from the first day I did the workout, I took a picture of myself.

Maps: And then, in that 13 weeks, I lost weight. And I was like, wow, parang may lumalabas na abs. But at the same time, I was like, but parang low-low pa rin yung katawan ko. I’m still not having that revenge body. And at the same time, I was thinking, how can I actually become healthier na?

Kasi, despite the fact I’m working out, I’m not eating, eh. I’m unhealthy. I wasn’t feeling well. Pag-inanon ko yung buhok ko nalalagas. Kasi, I wasn’t eating. Parang, syempre may pinagdadaanan.

Maps: But that mindset of like, I want to be even better, I guess I was already looking for guidance or somebody to help me. Or what do I do ba to be actually healthy? Do I eat salad lang? I don’t know. And luckily, I had a friend who reached out to me, slid into my DMs.

And I was like, what’s this? And he said, hey, you wanna join this body transformation challenge? And I was like, wait, that sounds interesting. Pero baka I’m not yet ready for a challenge.

Maps: But I’ll try your program. And that’s how I got introduced to Herbalife. So, from there pa lang, I guess I would be posting, you know, stories lang of what I’ve been doing. And people would be following that journey and getting inspired.

And for me naman, when I started Herbalife, at first, I was honestly skeptical. I was like, ano ba to ganyan? But then, you know, I asked the universe for it. And then it came. And I said, sige, let me try it for the first 30 days.

Maps: So, if I don’t like it, I don’t have to continue. Yet, in that next 30 days, I felt so much better. Like, I learned how to actually nourish myself, eat properly. I had a community that was super supportive of me.

And, you know, it feels so good to have people around you who are supporting you. And you support them as well. So, parang you just inspire each other. So, that journey became like that. So, like, I would say I’ve lost a total of 20 pounds in that entire journey.

Philippe: Good for you.

Maps: Yeah, but more than the weight I lost, I feel like I gained something more. I gained a better life. Kasi I gained also newer friends, opportunities, connections as well. And that, you know, internal parang,

I felt like I had a purpose na I want to help others feel that same kind of transformation where it’s not just a physical transformation but it’s a holistic one. Iba talaga eh. When you get into fitness, parang it unlocks so much out of you.

Maps: So, that’s where the journey started. It’s really just my own personal transformation stories until I had friends who were asking me, Hey, Maps, I wanna lose weight then. What did you do?

So, I would refer them to my coach until eventually sabi ng coach ko, You know, you’re actually coaching them already. Why don’t you do it na rin? And I was like, ang sige. And I would see my clients parang, I remember my first client, she was an old friend of mine.

Maps: This girl has never worked out a day in her life. She started a program. Like, first with nutrition, eating, and then later on, she started following, you know, online workouts as well. Si Ating hindi nag, you know, she always dresses like, loose.

Maps: One day, naka-cropped up na siya. And I was like, oh my gosh. It’s a different kind of transformation. She has this confidence and belief in herself na, Wow, I’m able to do this for myself. So, those things inspired me to keep going.

Philippe: Is this something you do full-time right now?

Maps: Right now, yes. I do it full-time na.

Philippe: And how many people have you given advice to in terms of how many have been your… Is that correct? Clients?

Maps: Yeah

Philippe: Or partners in fitness?

Maps: I’d say clients and partners. I’d say more than hundreds na eh. Because I’ve been doing Herbalife for… I’ve been on this fitness journey since 2020. So it’s gonna be my sixth year. But prior to that, I was actually working in our family company.

Philippe:  Okay.

Maps: So, for me, I was there for eight years until again, when the pandemic happened. Then I got into fitness. So parang, I was already doing this on the side. And it came to a point na parang, I felt like, I’m just doing what I love.

And the more people I help is a reflection of how much income I make. And I felt at some point, Uy, kalahati na ito ng sweldo ko. Baka I can do this na rin. So, maybe the journey was starting from there.

Maps: Like, getting into where I am now. Kasi, it was giving me the sense na, Oh, I can actually achieve success din. In doing my own thing rather than in following someone’s plan for me.

Which is, I realized, working in that company is not really for me. Parang, this gave me like a sense of, it’s a business with a purpose. So, can I share a little bit of the transformation story pa?

Philippe:  Yes, please go ahead.

Maps: Okay. So, getting into the whole, my first year of it, sabi ko, finally, I reached my revenge body, my beach body of my dreams. I had the abs and everything. Unfortunately, a year into it, my father passed away. Yeah.

So, this is a story that became close to me talaga. I didn’t really intend to be a coach or get into health and fitness just because of, you know, revenge body. But, the day that my dad passed away was the very day that I became a supervisor in Herbalife. And that’s when I realized, maybe I should be in health and wellness so I can help more people become healthier.

Maps: Kasi, a backstory of it, just to share. My dad, at the age of 40, he was already a diabetic, high blood, lahat na nang sakit, yung malahat nang bawal na kainin, alak, you know, that unhealthy lifestyle.

Although, he was a tennis player. Unfortunately, he had a kidney failure. So, he had to undergo dialysis. I knew that my family went through a hard time financially. Tapos, we were lucky enough to get him a transplant.

Maps: So, he lived for 15 more years. Pero, when the pandemic happened, syempre, the comorbidities, right? So, he had, ano na, he had heart problems naman. He needed another transplant. He was hospitalized twice in that first year of pandemic. So, you can already imagine the hospitalization costs plus dialysis sessions.

Unfortunately, sa kakadialysis niya na COVID siya. And it was a very painful process kasi the time that he, you know, he was hospitalized and died was the time that nagka-lockdown ulit in the second year of the pandemic.

Maps: So, I was in my most, yung isolated, yung direcho agad sa, ano, yun. But anyway, so, dun yung mga realization ko na, you know, no matter how much money you have, I’m blessed that we were able to give our dad, you know, the best care.

It doesn’t matter when your body fails you. So, prevention is better than cure and health is wealth. So, that’s where I started to think na parang, maybe, you know, I’m really here because that’s my purpose.

Maps: To help more people, you know, ordinary Filipinos, become healthier. Kasi, we have to take care of our health so that, you know, we can live that best life, you know, for our families, for our loved ones, for ourselves, to be the best versions, you know.

That’s really where I found my purpose here. And, I started to think, maybe health is not wealth, but health creates wealth. And that’s what I want to talk about. I love that.

Philippe: And how long have you been with Herbalife?

Maps: Five years now.

Philippe:  Wow.

Maps: Yeah.

Philippe:  So, it was one your revenge, revenge body.

Maps: One year revenge body. And then, into after that, when my dad died, it became purposeful na. So, it more, I mean, to add to that, syempre, when my dad died, after getting that revenge body, that beach body, eh, I was in lockdown mode. And I was grieving.

So, I did, spiraled out of control, I would say. I kept eating and eating. I was barely moving na. So, I gained weight. Like, I became even bigger than when I originally started. So, can you imagine this?

Maps: The, oh my God, na-achieve ko na yung beach body dreams ko, tapos, lumaki ulit ako. That was painful. And, I couldn’t stop at think na rin na, I had to pause, and like, map, get back into it lang.

You don’t have to think the same way as, kailangan revenge body. Just, focus on healthy lifestyle for the long term. And that’s where I’m at today. So, parang, yeah, I lost that weight, and back to that beach body.

Maps: But, I say it’s more than the physique. It’s like, I wanna be as healthy and as fit as I can be until like, I’m 80 or 90 or whatever.

Philippe: So, the main goal is longevity?

Maps: Yes, exactly.

Philippe: Because, of course, a lot of people and a lot of our viewers are gonna be wondering is, is the regimen for females different from males?

Maps: No, not really. I mean, it’s all, I’d say the same. Like, as long as you’re taking care of your health, your wellness, you’re eating right and well, then, fat loss, or weight loss, is a natural result.

Plus, it gives you more benefit of, I like to say, health is not just about the weight you lose, it’s about the life you gain. So, you gain more out of it. I realized na, if I hadn’t gotten into fitness, I wouldn’t be doing what I do now.

Maps: Because, before, I knew that, wala, office, bahay lang, like, very sedentary. Now, I travel a lot, I free dive, I play tennis, I like hiking, I also do pickleball. So, parang, ang dami ko ginagawa bigla.

Kasi, parang, suddenly, I have all that energy and vitality to do all sorts of things now. So, that’s amazing.

Philippe: And what about the misconceptions about being healthy, eating healthy, exercises, going to the gym, that misconception were, ang mahal naman pag healthy. And then, another one is, another misconception is, what about time? Wala akong time.

I work, go to office, 8 to 5, come back home, kids, family. All of these misconceptions, how do you advise them to adapt to it, adjust to it, get into fitness? What’s the most simplest way to start?

Maps: Okay. So, I love hearing those because those are what people typically tell me. Like, when I interview my clients, what are your struggles? I don’t have time, I don’t have money for it, ganyan.

You don’t have to overcomplicate things. Because sometimes, we tend to think, oh, I have to spend, actually, that’s what I thought before. Like, oh, I have to spend so much on, like, things, like, before I even got into fitness, sabi ko, ano yan?

Maps: Kailangan ko ba magshop sa healthy options lang yung gano’n. That’s expensive. Then I realized, it all goes down to the basics. Having the right amount of carbs, say, rice, or chicken, or fish, na kahit lutong bahay lang, that’s already cheaper than having to eat out or buy all sorts of things.

Plus, to be honest, having Herbalife as one of my nutritional sources, it makes things very convenient na I don’t have to overthink how I need all these sorts of vitamins or whatever. That one shake gives me already all the nutrients that I need. So, parang, that’s part of my system na.

Maps: Tapos, when it comes to time, I usually, I was just listening to a podcast prior to this. Sabi nga niya, if you don’t have time for your health and wellness, how will you have time for your sickness? Right? So, you kinda have to find a way to schedule it in your lifestyle.

Maybe give yourself, like, 15 minutes a day. Maybe, like, the first thing in the day is, like, take your shake or give yourself 15 minutes to walk around your neighborhood or your house just so that you can, you know, have nourishment and exercise. What is something simple and easy for you to do in 15 minutes? Start with that.

Philippe: Another misconception is, magtidiet ako, ibig sabihin, salads? Greens? Gulay? Tell us more about that.

Maps: That’s exactly what I thought at first. Parang, yun ba yun? But then I realized, diet is not just about the salads. Diet is actually the way you eat. So, I like thinking, eat for the body or the health that you want, not for the body that you have.

So, diet, meaning, parang, eating healthy is not just about salads lang. Kasi sometimes, you have to give yourself leeway to eat fun foods. It’s always, for me, the 80-20 principle. So, 80% good healthy food, 20% fun food, right?

Maps: Kasi, minsan kasi, we tend to have this all or nothing mindset. Right? Wherein, I have to do this. What if you make a mistake, you fall off the wagon? Some people find it hard to go back. But why not give yourself the grace to learn about yourself, what works for you, and you become healthier.

Philippe: Yung ba kasi, when they hear 80-20, oh, 80 sweets, whatever I want, then 20 healthy food.

Maps: Baliktarin natin yun.

Philippe: Usually nga, yung main course is the whatever carbs, rice, whatever, crabs, whatever. I think yung 20% is a salad.

For the typical Filipino, sabihin natin, someone who is a minimum wage, but is overweight, unhealthy, unfit, can you give a few tips and advice on how they can start?

Philippe: And take note, I’m asking for the people who works in the mall, works in the office, as a secretary, as an admin, as a janitor, how can they adapt or transform their lives to something more healthier and to promote longevity to them? Give us your top three tips on that.

Maps: Okay. One of the pinaka-less costly ways, I would say, start eating mindfully. Eat slowly. We have this tendency to eat very fast, right? So, what happens is, pag kumain tayo ng marami, parang we’ve eaten so much already that, you know, it’s more calories than we can already burn.

But when you start eating slowly, you’ll realize your gut is signaling to your brain, hey, you’re full na, you don’t have to finish this whole plate. You can already start with something like that. Eat mindfully.

Maps: Learning to, you know, what feels good for you, what gives you energy, versus when you eat something and then you feel bad or nakaka-energy crash ka later.

Philippe:  And this is different from proportioning your food.

Maps: Yeah. I mean, I would say, even if you portion, parang, yeah, you portion your food as well. That’s another tip, actually. Portion your food. Na, you have, like a plate, have a cup of rice, have a portion of protein, have a portion of, you know, veggies.

And that’s already an enough meal. So, whether you’re somebody na, you’re working a typical job, that’s doable naman. Another tip, I would say, eat whole foods instead of processed.

Maps: Parang kung kaya mo kumain ng, yung tamang pagkain na eh, kanin, ulam, gulay, versus, let’s say, cup noodles, yanon. Kasi those, what do you call this, those processed foods are actually the ones that are making us unhealthy.

Yeah, they have more calories, more fats, we don’t know what’s in them versus foods na when you buy it from the market, when you cook it, it looks the same. Di ba? So, yan.

Philippe: One more tip.

Maps: Okay, one more tip. Drink water. Hydrate. Why? Because hydration helps us flush out the toxins at the same time, something profound that I found out. You know those moments na parang gusto lang natin kumain?

Like we go to the ref looking for something or gusto lang natin mag-snack. The thing is, our brain cannot tell the difference between thirst or hunger. So, drink water first. When you drink water and you’re fine, you were just thirsty.

Maps: But if you’re hungry as in gutom ka na talaga, you feel weak, you feel rumbling in your stomach, then that’s your signal to eat. So, I could say you can start with those easy tips that don’t require any spending kasi it’s all about ano eh, um, tama, eating mindfully and ano, um, we gain weight

When we’re, kasi we gain weight when we’re eating more than what our body can burn in terms of calories and we lose weight when we’re in a deficit. So, just by eating right, when you’re satiated na hindi ka naman sobrang busog, hindi ka naman sobrang gutom, you are gonna be fine.

Philippe: I wanna circle back to processed food.

Maps: Okay.

Philippe: Okay. When the typical Filipino hears about it, sabihin natin OFW, because usually they’re far away. Yes. Sabihin natin si OFW is very limited in going to the groceries kasi most of the time, sabihin natin domestic helper na sa bahay lang bawal lumabas, once a month lang yung day off.

So, what would your tips, can you give them tips on what processed foods are? Because, for example, let me mention a few and you tell me if it’s processed food. Pure foods na, gusto mo nagsasabi ako ng breath, pure foods na corned beef na halata. Is that processed food?

Maps: I would say it’s processed food kasi nakadalata na but then again, it’s beef. Sometimes kasi we don’t really have, you know, much options given our conditions kasi you can still eat tuna in a can.

Corned beef is still beef. When I say processed, it means yung parang, siguro, yung mga spam, mga ganon.

Philippe:  Really? Kahit meat pa rin siya?

Maps: Kahit na meat siya kasi if you read the ingredient labels, meron na siya iba-ibang ingredients pa.

Philippe: I see.

Maps: So, it’s like learning to read labels as well. So, try to find foods wherein it has the best protein content and also like not too much ingredients na parang yung mga add-ons.

Philippe: We never read the fine print on that. Yung nutritional facts. What about, here’s my favorite one, pancit canton.

Maps:  Well, definitely, it’s processed.

Philippe: Really? Guilty.

Maps: I’m guilty. Once in a while, I eat it but it’s not like everyday na yung nakain ko. Although like, I would say it’s processed in a sense na parang, you know, the carbs in it and the calories is very high kasi between like grains or normal rice parang, ito na yun eh.

That’s the product itself. Eh, yung mga stuff like pancit canton and other junk food. Di mo na alam ano yung mga ingredients na nilalagay pa eh.

Philippe: So, for example, ano? Tender, juicy?

Maps: Definitely, it’s processed.

Philippe: Guilty. Ano pa yung kinakain natin? Sky flakes?

Maps: Yeah. It’s very funny. I find it funny that before, people would say, I’m not gonna eat rice kasi I wanna lose weight pero I’ll eat sky flakes.

Philippe: Yan ang ano ng matatanda. Why is it that sa mga matatanda or sabihin na, hindi na, mga older lang, why is it sky flakes?

Yan yung pang ano nila? At parang, ay, sumasakit na yung tiyan o parang they feel na medyo asinig ako mag sky flakes ako. Enlighten us, please.

Maps: I would say, I think it’s because it’s like a quick fix. Like, biskuit siya eh. Parang, it’s something to fill your stomach. But then again, it’s processed eh. Yung parang, let’s say a cup of rice is 200 calories, right?

You eat sky flakes, parang, sorry, I forgot how many calories it is. But basically, it could be almost equivalent to rice. Pero mas marami ang rice. So, saan ka ba masasatisfy?

Philippe: Sa rice.

Maps: Sa rice na lang. So it’s better to just eat rice than sky flakes na, okay, ma-fill yung stomach mo saglit but then it gets absorbed agad by the body and gutom ka na naman. So what do you do? You eat again.

Philippe: Let’s talk other products.

Maps: Okay

Philippe: Piattos,  Chippy.

Maps: Siyempre junk food na yan eh.

Philippe: Pero, okay, junk food. Is that processed?

Maps: Yes, definitely. Because, Yeah, processed foods na yan. I mean, here’s another thing na I realized. A lot of my clients say, eh coach, mayilig akong mag-chips, mag-snacks, ganyan-ganyan yan, right?

So, it’s definitely hard to lose weight when you keep on eating junk food. But, eh sinasabi gutom nga ako, I want to eat something fast. The thing is, when we’re hungry, our body’s actually signaling that we want, we need nutrients, not just calories.

Maps: So when we do consume nutritious foods, then we’re full and satisfied longer than junk food na empty calories.

Philippe: Maybe because junk food generally is very accessible and cheaper to buy. Kasi, halimbawa, gutom, skyflakes, okay na. Let’s jump to nutrition.

Because if people think, well, most people think na parang, okay, eat chips, I eat food and everything, doesn’t, like you said, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s healthy.

Philippe: How about when it comes to nutrition? So when you’re hungry, what does our body need?

Maps: Okay, when we’re hungry, inga, our body needs nutrition, right? So first, yung mga macronutrients that we need: carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.

So, carbs come from yung mga kinakain natin, like rice, vegetables, fruits, grains, ganoon, even pasta, that’s carbs.

Maps: So, we would consider those food, of course, that we need, and carbs is not the enemy. We need those carbs for the energy that we need to spend for the day.

Philippe: So okay lang magpizza, pasta?

Maps:  Okay lang naman, in moderation.

Philippe: In moderation?  Okay, okay.

Maps: Kasi I admit na, even me, I enjoy pasta and pizza once in a while, but it’s not like it’s what I eat everyday.

Philippe: I see. So wag lang everyday?

Maps: Wag lang everyday. Have like a staple food that you eat at home.

Philippe: Next, let’s talk about protein. What would your suggestion be?

Maps: Protein, of course, we need protein because there are the building blocks of the body, and we need to take care of our muscle because it’s our muscle mass that helps burn the calories and fats.

So, protein, I would say yung mga chicken, fish, beef, pork, even soy protein, ganoon.

Philippe: But mga lutong bahay, so for example, afritada, caldereta, is that okay?

Maps:  that’s definitely okay.

Philippe: It’s better than eating junk food or McDonald’s or mga ganoon?

Maps: Yeah, I would say so kasi people also have this misconception na, oh, if I want to eat yung kailangan grilled or steamed lang. Not necessarily kasi what if you have conditions where you’re at home and then there’s always a meal prepared by your mom?

You have to eat that, right? So, kahit naman yung adobo mo o caldereta, those are still better than having to eat fast food outside.

Philippe: When you say better, does it mean health-wise or it’s better than junk food?

Maps: I’d say it’s better than junk food.

Philippe: So, not necessarily healthy siya?

Maps: Hindi, it could also be considered healthy.

Philippe: So, can we assume that basic Filipino dishes are quite healthy?

Maps: Not all, kasi actually I realize yung Filipino food natin is very oily, sometimes fried. Totoo naman yan eh. So, it’s a matter of just choosing leaner parts.

Philippe: Ah, I see, I see. Eh di malungkot yun kung wala taba? Wala. Di ba yun yung delicacy natin?

Maps: True naman, but I have to ask you again, parang what are your goals ba? If your goal is to become healthier, to lose the fats, then you have to make changes towards your diet and your lifestyle.

Philippe: I see.

Maps: Yeah.

Philippe: Good thing you talked about losing fats and everything. What about sweets, desserts, anything with sugar? What’s your take on that?

Maps: Well, definitely, those are the reasons why we do get bigger, why we accumulate fats. It’s because nga, the sugar, the carbs that we intake, when we don’t use that carbs, that energy stored, then the body just stores it as fats.

That’s why parang we try to limit yung mga sugar intake natin, yung carbs, kasi again, those also contribute to why people get diabetes.

Philippe: All because from dessert and all the sugar intake. Milk tea, Starbucks, all that stuff.

Maps: Oo.

Philippe:  Kasi inaaraw-araw kasi nila yung milk tea.

Maps:  Ayun nga, parang inaaraw-araw mo yung milk tea if you wanna get healthier, that’s not gonna be possible.

Philippe: Pero it’s not necessarily rice that causes you diabetes, right?

Maps: No, it’s not.

Philippe:  Rice is not, yeah, rice is carbs, but it came from plants. Di ba? Okay.

Maps: Oo, not necessarily because like, rice is still, although it’s, could be high in glycemic index, but you can have other alternatives if you’re trying to watch your sugar.

Like brown rice, kamote, kamote may be sweet, but it’s actually low in sugar. So yan.

Philippe:  Interesting.

Maps: It’s the added sugars talaga, yung mga, yung table sugar that causes yung parang accumulation of fats and of course, yung that adds to more possibilities of us having diabetes.

Philippe: Eggs?

Maps: Eggs is definitely good. It’s a protein and with fats, Ang dami nagsasabi, I don’t know, it’s what I’ve been hearing around and not necessarily I would believe most of them,

but ang dami nagsasabi, eggs is bad for you, two eggs is worse than, I don’t know, just eat one egg or don’t eat eggs at all, what are your thoughts about that? Well, eggs are still a source of protein and it’s one of the easiest protein snacks that you can also have.

Maps: Because parang for me, I don’t see it as bad. Actually, I don’t really see food as good or bad. Rather, it’s how much you eat of it, which is good or bad. Kasi nga, again, goes back to the principle of 80% good food, healthy food, and then 20% fun food, right?

Philippe: Okay. Okay, that’s an idea. So, everyone watching this, alam niyo na, it’s about the portion, how much you eat, wag lang every day.

Maps: Oo. Everything in moderation naman talaga eh.

Philippe: Okay, I wanna go back to this.

Maps: Actually, my formula for a healthy, active lifestyle is 80% nutrition, 20% exercise, and 100% mindset.

Philippe: Really? 20% exercise?

Maps: Yeah. Because no matter, I went through that phase, diba, na parang sobrang puro-puro exercise talaga. No matter how much exercise you do, it’s only 20%.

Because the biggest chunk is really in what you eat. In how you nourish yourself, in your nutrition, if you’re eating healthy for the 80%, you’re actually gonna get to your health goals, your weight loss goals, for example, faster than just doing the 20% exercise alone.

Philippe: I see. And since you mentioned exercise, what are the basic exercises that the typical Filipino needs? Do they need to exercise every day, three times a week, and what sort of exercise?

Maps: Good question, because a lot of people tend to ask me that. If you’re somebody na hindi naman talaga nag-exercise, think of it as, actually, your daily movement is considered exercise.

Even walking, as simple as walking, is considered exercise. Because to live a healthy, active lifestyle, we need to be moving and not just sedentary. So kahit na you give yourself 15 or 30 minutes of walking, that’s considered exercise na.

Maps: Better, if you can also do resistance training. It’s like, you can say naman na, ay, kailangan ko ba mag-gym? Not necessarily.

Because what if, like, every day or times you go to the grocery, you lift weights, you lift your kids, that’s resistance training na rin. Even cleaning your house is a form of movement and exercise.

Philippe:  But don’t they say cleaning the house is more stressful than doing exercise itself? But it’s a different type of stress.

Maps: Yeah, I’m sure it is, but again, it’s still movement. But if you can give yourself time to go to the gym, or at least do home workouts, or do a sport, then that is exercise.

Philippe: Give us some tips on home workouts. People, because sometimes we go, ah, wala akong gym, wala akong time. I wake up in the morning, they come back, pagod na ako. Give us some tips on home exercises.

Maps: I would say, tips ko dyan for home exercise, again, find something simple and easy for you to do for 15 minutes muna. So maybe give yourself, like, a challenge lang. Like, first day, I want to do one sit-up, or two, or three, or five, ganon.

Then the next day, you give yourself another chance to do more. Or even, like, squats, or push-ups. Something that you can do easily at home.

Philippe: So very traditional pala yung mga tips mo.

Maps: Actually, it’s all back to basics and simplicity. We don’t need to do super complicated things.

Philippe: Yeah, because I hear a lot, okay, di ba, there’s so many types of exercises. You got, like, weight training, then you have crossfit, and then there’s this new one, the high rocks thing, where you have to run a kilometre here, a kilometre there.

Parang people, maybe that’s the reason why people try to avoid because hindi nila mamatay na sila.

Maps:  Yeah, exactly.

Philippe: So what’s going on with these types of programs? Parang may, I don’t know, there’s so many programs that people are so afraid of because hindi nga na sila. It’s as if they’re gonna die, you know?

Maps: That’s true. Like, we tend to see those things as parang haka-intimidate naman, kailangan ganon ako agad. But not necessarily. I would say those people started somewhere as well.

Philippe: Good point.

Maps: I would say that’s how I also started because when my clients would say, Oh no, I have to be like you, Maps, ganyan, I have to be in the gym or doing that, not necessarily. Kasi I also started with, again, home workouts.

I started with just doing one push-up a day or, like, one sit-up a day, and then I started doing, like, the 10-minute YouTube workouts. That’s where I started. And then it came na lang for me na, Hey, I wanna try this and that and get better.

Philippe: Have you ever had clients who are in the senior age?

Maps: Yes. The funny thing is, the seniors tend to think, Ay, hindi ko na kaya yan kasi I’m old. You know, it’s all in the mindset. Because health and wellness and fitness, there’s no age limit to it, right? It’s never too late or too early to start your fitness journey.

I’ve had clients in their 60s na they just wanna lose weight. So I give them the program, this is your shakes, this is what you eat for the day. Try to follow lang. Then nangagaling na sa kanila, Uy, Maps, nage-exercise ako. I’m doing squats, I’m doing, you know, barbells.

Philippe: And because, for example, yung mga senior, sabihin natin medyo past 70.

Maps: Yeah

Philippe: Is it still advisable for them to exercise?

Maps: Yes

Philippe: Do resistance training? What if parang mahina na yung buto? Mabagal na maglakad? And very, what’s that term… Brittle?

Maps: Oo. That’s something that you can do, you know, for them, that they can do na lang easily. Like maybe, kahit walking lang for them is already exercise or, you know, just movement.

Kasi we tend to think na when we’re old, we don’t have energy anymore, or we don’t have strength. Because yun nga, in our younger years, we didn’t develop those. Kaya from going back lang like, kaya I said na I wanna be stronger until I’m 80 or something.

Maps: It starts when you’re young. So I like to advise people na parang start as early as you can. Build the muscle, get healthy. Because every year, starting the age of 30, we lose 1% of our body muscle.

And that’s why when you get older, we feel like mas mahina na tayo kasi we don’t have muscle mass anymore. So if you look at yung mga, I admire talaga yung mga seniors that I see in the gym. Kasi parang mahalakas mo pa rin. I wanna be like that.

Philippe: Actually I have a gym buddy of mine, he used to be a cabin crew. And I think he’s 62 or 63. But damn, you look at him and, I mean you could tell he’s a senior, but his body, no belly, no nothing, he’s more fit than a millennial.

He just started going to the gym and every day he bikes to the gym, I think about 2-3 kilometers. I mean cycling and all that, so he has that cardio and he goes to the gym, he does a bit of weight training, and then he goes back home riding his bike.

Philippe: And he does it every single day. And then he goes to multiple gyms because he’s a fitness guy. And maybe it’s because it’s kind of demanding when you’re a cabin crew. You need to look fit and be able to carry the luggage.

But retired na siya. But he still kept a regimen every day and nakakatawa siya. And you look at him and he’s very active. He’s very active. And it’s something like, I wish more seniors were like you.

Maps: Yeah, exactly.

Philippe: It’s hard. It’s hard to convince my parents as well. They’re so hard to convince. And especially with my mom, she has osteoporosis and all that. Kaya pala, nakukuha karamihan ng mga babae based on research and study is because, one, it’s not about losing calcium but losing their muscle that doesn’t support their bones anymore.

And even though masipag siya na every day naglilinis siya, I find that the only reason I say why cleaning the house or doing any chores is stressful is because they release more cortisol compared to endorphins that you get when you work out.

Maps:  Yeah.

Philippe: For a while, I used to tell my mom, “Tama na, tama na. Stop doing that. Just relax and everything.” And then somebody advised me to stop doing that. “Doing what?” I asked. I realized that stopping them from doing things was actually taking away their way of coping with life and their physical challenges.

I thought, ah, ganoon ba? I realized that the moment they stop doing that, they’ll be bedridden. So right now, even if she comes over, cooks, washes the dishes, and everything even though we have people to do that I let her. It’s up to her.

Philippe: If there are situations where the kids need attention, she can focus on them, but otherwise, I let her. I let her be active. I think what’s still lacking is their physical therapy. Kasi kuba na siya eh. No wonder they lose their height.

Maps: Yeah, but I guess it’s good that she’s doing those things. Parang she can move. Kasi true naman, when we feel tired and low on energy, it’s often because the less we move, the more bedridden we become.

People tend to say, “I don’t have energy to work out,” but that’s because you’re not moving. The more you move, the more you’ll realize you do have energy. Eventually, your body starts looking for movement or activity. So maybe just allow your mom to do that while she physically can.

Philippe: Actually I did. But from time to time, kailangan ko siya sitayin. Because, you know, something so heavy, like a tray of plates this high come on! Kaya ko! Kaya ko! And then all the glasses huwag naman! Di ba?

Maps: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Philippe: So there are times that I really have to stop her kasi talagang she doesn’t listen. You know? But it is what it is. I’m a big believer with nutrition.

Maps: Yeah.

Philippe: So can you tell us about…

Maps: Okay.

Philippe: Fitness Maps.

Maps: So Fitness Maps is my coaching brand. It just started as, you know, I just wanted something like a hashtag for myself when I was doing my fitness thing. But basically, when I got into Herbalife and that became my tool when it comes to nutrition,

That’s where I learned most of what I know about nutrition, also from all the research and stuff. I would say Fitness Maps is my coaching program where people… I try to get to know first, what are my clients’ goals? What are their struggles? What’s their lifestyle like?

Maps: And help them through… get through… get to their goals by providing them solutions through the products and, of course, my coaching. I’m the kind of person kasi na in terms of strengths, I’m an activator.

I have context, strategic, input, and intellection. So I kind of have this very strategic mind. Parang tell me what your lifestyle is, your struggles, ganyan. Okay, here’s what you do. I can guide you through that. That’s why I said Fitness Maps your map to fitness.

Philippe: I love the name. It’s really catchy and it tells a lot about the whole idea and stuff. Is this something you do? Is this one-on-one sessions? Is this a group session? How does this work?

Maps: Okay, so I can do one-on-one coaching. I do it online. So I typically send you… First of all, we do that interview trying to get to know your goals, your struggles, and I do a wellness evaluation.

Then, I send you this online program which you can follow and a meal guide. We also have an online community where my clients can join so they get to meet other clients of other coaches. We basically learn from each other through this community.

Maps: Plus, I also do group coaching. Group coaching includes programs like the Body Transformation Challenge or Workplace Wellness programs, or if you’re an office or a barcada who wants to get fit together, then I can make a program for that.

Philippe: That’s quite… it’s quite interesting because we need an accountability buddy most of the time. Because if it’s only yourself, parang, eh, bumasa lang.

Maps: Alam mo, totoo yan. Kasi I felt like I try to do things on my own at yun nga, sabi ko nga, maybe I need guidance. Having a coach to guide you is one of the best things that can happen to really fuel you because everybody needs coaches, right?

When we try to do things on our own, parang ang daming ideas, ang daming pwedeng gawin na parang we just try everything and there’s no sustainability to it. So I guess that’s what I do. I give guidance.

Philippe: Can you tell us about Herbalife? Because like I told you, I’m a big believer in nutrition. Okay, apart from the food that we eat and the stuff that’s accessible, what does Herbalife offer?

Like what would you recommend in terms of… because you told me about the shakes and stuff. So I’m kind of curious because I used to do a lot of shakes.

Maps: Yeah.

Philippe: Protein shakes and banana strawberries are great, but what I never really paid attention to are the micronutrients, which are also important.

I’ve been hearing a lot though I’m not sure about all the jargons about vitamins and other nutrients. Can you enlighten us about the stuff that you use and what you would recommend?

Maps: Alright, so for me Herbalife Nutrition is actually the number one in the world when it comes to nutritional products. It’s been around for 40 years and I’ve been taking the products for 5 years now.

Every day I have my shake breakfast shake, aloe, and tea. So the shake is actually a meal replacement with 9 grams protein all the nutrients and vitamins that you need to get started for to get satiated and energized from your morning to lunch. So it’s low in calories and very high in nutrients.

Philippe: So no breakfast?

Maps: That is your breakfast already.

Philippe: ah yun na yun?

Maps: Yes. So as a person before I used to not eat breakfast but what would happen when I got to the office before what would I eat chips, junk food or when it came to lunch I ate a lot so it defeats the purpose we’re trying to lose weight by not eating but when I have my shake as breakfast parang alam mo parang busog na ako for the morning pa lang and then I can last till lunch and I’m good.

So it also helps manage yung food cravings ko it gives me the nutrients I need and then the aloe tea naman the aloe concentrate it helps with hydration, nutrient absorption and soothes the digestive system.

Maps: So it helps me feel you know good internally kasi it helps clean the intestine para I can absorb nutrients better and then the tea it’s a tea concentrate that has thermogenic properties to help burn fats. So it helps increase your metabolism and gives you the energy boost that you need.

Maps: So those three are what we call the healthy breakfast and it’s what I’ve been taking for the past five years whether the goal is weight loss sorry fat loss muscle gain or just healthy active lifestyle yan ang naging breakfast staple ko.

Philippe: And what do you eat for lunch? For dinner? Do we even eat dinner?

Maps: We do eat. Actually it’s funny people say so hindi ka naku bakaen? I’m like no I eat. You have to eat normal foods so like typical lunch kanin, ulam, veggies so that’s my typical lunch and dinner in the afternoon I also have another shake.

So the role of supplements is there to fill in the gaps of what our typical foods don’t have all the time yung mga nutrients that we need. So to live a healthy active lifestyle hindi naman shake lang kailangan mo pa rin kumain ng totoong pagkain.

Philippe: So yung second second round ng shake is that a different type of food replacement? Or is it just an add-on?

Maps: It’s an add-on shake, yeah. Kasi parang siyempre in the afternoon we’re losing energy and nutrients again you have to just replenish. And instead of like going for an unhealthy snack I’d rather drink na lang ako ng shake.

Philippe: Oh. What if you just drink the shake breakfast, lunch, and dinner? (14:31) Is that okay?

Maps: Well, magugutom ka.

Philippe: Talaga?

Maps: I mean you still need food, like whole foods. Because the shake itself, although the shake is a meal on its own, you still want to eat regular food. Think of it na lang as you’re adding nourishment to your body.

We’re not taking any foods away, we’re not being restrictive but rather we’re adding nourishment. So when we add that nourishment then we’re actually more in control of our food choices.

Philippe: Let’s go over to the shakes. Okay. So what’s the process with the shake? Is there a food pack that you mix in a blender, put ice, how does it work?

Maps: Alright, so the shake comes in a canister or yung sachets ko na binigay kita.

Philippe: Let’s show it to the audience.

Maps: So let’s open this. I gave Philip some samples. This is my Herbalife shake. This is an apple juice with F1 nutritional shake mix and chocolate flavor. It’s low in glycemic index, meaning it’s friendly for diabetics. And if you’re also watching your sugar, having low GI means very low sugar. Actually, no added sugar ito.

Philippe:  Pero taste, what about the taste?

Maps: Oh it tastes super delicious.

Philippe:  Really?

Maps: Yeah actually.

Philippe: With no added sugar?

Maps: No added sugar. Can I just say, the first day that I took Herbalife, I was already expecting the worst, thinking it was going to taste so bad, but when I had it, I’m like, oh my God, it’s so delicious.

Philippe: Is that one sachet per cup? I mean what’s the measurement?

Maps: Yeah one sachet per cup. So I would say you can either mix this with soy milk or nonfat milk in a shaker bottle or you can if you have a blender at home you can mix it with oats and banana.

Philippe: Oh nice. That’s nice. That’s nice.

Maps: Yeah.

Philippe:  And what’s the other thing in the box?

Maps: Let’s see. And I added something else, so it’s called Emulift. This is an add-on to your drink, and it actually helps with boosting your immunity. It has zinc, selenium. Tama ba? Yes.

Philippe:  So when do we take that?

Maps: This one you can take it anytime of the day so you can actually add it to your water or your aloe tea.

Philippe:  So is it good to take all of this in the morning or in the afternoon?  Is timing a factor for nutrients?

Maps: Well ideally I like to say that you take the shake for breakfast and then you can take your aloe tea also in the breakfast time or at any time of the day.

Philippe: What’s Herbalife? Do they have a store? Do you order online? How does the whole purchasing process work?

Maps: So Herbalife is actually you can only get it through independent distributors like me. There’s a reason to that. People tend to ask, why isn’t it just in the store? Can’t I sell it in Healthy Options? I remember the founder of Herbalife, Mark Hughes, talking about the products, why it’s not being sold on stores or in shelves.

It’s because the product itself doesn’t speak to itself. Because an Herbalife distributor like me, I have to be a product of the product. I can give you the product at the same time I offer my coaching services with it and teach you how to use the product effectively and how to eat healthily and live an active lifestyle.

Maps: It’s not like other brands that just buy it from the store. Do they actually call you and say, hi, how are you? How’s your program doing? Are you actually? Being an Herbalife distributor, it also makes me your nutrition coach. I don’t just sell you the products, I also coach you in your goals. That’s what makes it different.

Philippe: So that’s the difference. I never thought of it that way. It’s because I think a lot of, well, most Filipinos were known for all these scams and all these networking scams, pyramid or scheming scams.

That’s why I think they gave a bad name to companies like Herbalife because they feel like it’s sort of similar but just different products and everything. But digging deep into it because I remembered way back, it’s probably their competitor, Forever Living.

Philippe: I’m pretty familiar with that because a lot of, I think, between the circle of my tita’s friends, when I was a kid, she took me to these seminars and everything. I didn’t understand a single word about it because I was just a kid.

But there were a lot of so-called distributors, okay? Okay naman sila and everything, but they were promoting health and wellness but not necessarily fitness because many of them were very unfit and I don’t know, maybe this was the traditional way of doing multi-level marketing or something like that.

Philippe: They got into that sort of scheme and then, but I kind of got initially the idea of how it worked out and somehow the products that they were selling is sort of similar, I believe, with Herbalife. This was years after I dug deep into health and all this stuff and I always looked at Herbalife.

They always looked like how constant they were in the market after four decades. See, forever they just disappeared because I think it wasn’t about the product, I think it was about the people around it.

Philippe: So, I’m still a big believer with Herbalife, so how do we get products of Herbalife? If I’m interested, how do I purchase this? How can our audience purchase this? Do they go to you?

Maps: Well, you can definitely contact me and I can, of course, set a discovery call with you. Para, of course, I want to get to know muna. Ano ba yung goals mo in lifestyle? Para I can help you through the process and provide you the product supplementation of Herbalife.

Philippe:  So, how many product lines are we talking about? Is this like a whole package? Is this one, two, three?

Maps: We actually have packages, but I do have yung mga 21-day and 30-day packages wherein the main products are the F1 shakes plus aloe and tea. Plus, we have other products such as yung Immunilift, Fiber and Herb tablets,

Rebuild whey powders. So, it has a whole product line actually, depending on your nutritional needs. But the most basic that I provide first is yung Shake Aloe Tea, then add on sa yung iba.

Philippe: Do we need to consult our doctors before we take this?

Maps: You can always consult your doctors to be safe, of course. Definitely, for me, kasi Herbalife being a brand that’s been around for 40 years and an international market, it’s actually nutrition backed by scientists.

So, parang to me, sobrang kambante ako sa products na yan. And to add to that, yung nga yung sabi mo kanina na parang mahila paniwalaan yung iba kasi parang alaki nila, diba? I had to be a product of the product itself.

Maps: I didn’t, it was not my intention at first to become a distributor. It just happened naturally because I was taking the products, I got the best results out of it. Plus, yung nga, people would be asking, what did you do?

Honestly, taking Herbalife products, eating better, exercising. Ito lang naman yung sikreto ko dun eh.

Philippe: It’s good to know. So, anyone of you guys interested in getting Herbalife nutrition, just go to, do you have a website?

Maps: I do have an Instagram right now. It’s called at fitness maps underscore.

Philippe: You guys could follow Maps for that and then, so, generally, okay, Herbalife, okay, that’s a company where you get all the nutritional supplements and all that.

So, Fitness Maps is more of your consulting and more of the exercises, the workouts and everything. Love that.

Philippe: But you did mention that these shakes, you’re also trying to partner up with gyms and sports facilities just to… Is it just as a shake you’re partnering with them or are you going to…

Maps: I do have what I call a nutrition club. It’s called World of Wellness Nutri-Shakes or WOW Nutri-Shakes and it’s my own brand, I would say, but we do use Herbalife products. So, a nutrition club is a place where it’s like a physical store.

Parang it’s my office or that’s where I also take in my clients and also show them yung products and of course, let them try the shakes.

Maps: So, I also sometimes have pop-ups in sporting events, CrossFit events wherein instead of going for coffee or milk tea, at least I’m there to give you protein shakes, energizing teas that actually support your health and fitness goals.

Philippe: Does Herbalife have protein bars, anything edible or is it all like this?

Maps: Actually, they do but in other countries. Wala pa sa Philippines. I mean, Herbalife is an American brand so if you are in the States I can actually sponsor members even if you’re in the other countries as long as Herbalife is there.

So, when I go to the States, I actually buy the protein bars of Herbalife there and consume them for myself. But in the Philippines, it’s not available yet in the market.

Philippe: Ang mahal kasi ng protein bar dito. Parang isang, parang 150. This is a whole meal.

Maps: Oo. But you have to be careful of yung protein bars. We still have to watch out the calories and yung mga macros niya.

Philippe: Oh. Wasn’t aware of that. Noted. Noted on that. One time, the reason why I mentioned protein bar is because I think I was around, I was doing a meeting during lunchtime and then a friend of mine was like, well tara na, lunch na tayo.

It’s already, it’s already. I was like, I still have a meeting so I have to, I have to take this call. And then while I was doing my meeting, parang he passed by this, he threw like a protein bar. Gutom na, gutom na talaga ako.

Philippe: So I was looking at the protein bar and it wasn’t face on or anything so it was actually more of a reporting and stuff. They were reporting to me so I was just taking a bite of it. It was just this small.

And then after the call, after an hour of that call, I ended and I was like, saan ako magiging lunch? And when I was about to go downstairs, sabi ko, parang hindi ako gutom.

Philippe: Kasi sabi ko, I was like, this is quite, ano yung naiask mo? I was like, ano to? About 175. Huh? Sabi ko, pero mabusog ako. It’s small. It’s small but it’s dense.

Maps:  Mabubusog ka because of the protein inside.

Philippe: I was chewing. Sabi ko, ano ba the big turkey? Pero I was chewing and it was very, you know, filling. And then, sabi ko, I was contemplating. It’s not that I’m being cheap about it but because I would rather eat like eggs, like steak, anything with, I’m a big fan of beef kasi.

Meat itself. Chicken, beef, not so much with fish kasi may tinik. Pero if it’s filet, I’ll go ahead. You know, but I’m really, I love steaks, I love burgers, I love any type of meat. So, yun ang usually that’s what I look for for lunch.

Philippe: That friend of mine actually needs a health buff but he’s there for longevity. But he’s fit. He’s not bulky or anything. He’s fit. Every time we eat lunch, he’s on a salad. Pero may protein, may steak, or meat, anything like that.

So, it’s, most of the time we have lunch after the podcast and then pag ginaay niya kami, oh, why didn’t we have salad? That’s his main course.

Maps:  Okay.

Philippe: And then he’s, he’s got a bit of protein line. Let’s say, kakaing kami ng pizza, he gets just one slice and that’s it. But his main thing is always salad, salad, salad. But you could tell he’s really fit and he’s very, you know, so, it’s true. What you eat, you are what you eat.

Maps: Exactly, you are what you eat.

Philippe: That’s why I basically look like a cow. Anyway, anyway Maps, thank you for introducing us your, is this a consulting business and you also have this business opportunity wherein it helps create wealth for you.

Maps: Diba?

Philippe: That’s very beneficial, right?

Maps: It is.

Philippe: I think the only ones who will disagree with this are people who love to eat junk food. You know, or love to eat generally especially in the buffets.

Maps: Yeah, yeah. Oh, funny thing you mentioned the buffets because I have to say, I’m actually a foodie, believe it or not.

Philippe: Hindi halata

Maps: Diba? Hindi halata. I’m a foodie. But when it comes to, because I do have clients who say, Coach Maps, I’m going to travel, there’s a breakfast buffet or whatever, right? I travel, there’s breakfast buffet but what’s consistent with me,

I take my shake, aloe tea, before the buffet and when you’re in a buffet, here’s my tip, get the proteins first. It’s not eat all you can, it’s try all you can.

Philippe: Oh, I love that concept.  Try all you can.

Maps: Try all you can. Try the small portions of the proteins, the expensive ones that you get. Don’t get rice, you have that everyday, right?

Enjoy that. And when you do want to, you know, do like this thing that you ate, then that’s the only time you get back for it. So, eat in small portions first, then you’ll realize, eat it slowly, oh, I’m already full. Right?

Philippe: I’ll try a strategy.  Try all you can.

Maps: Yeah.

Philippe: Eat the bacon first.  Eat the bacon first.

Maps:  Don’t get a buffet everyday. And then, you know, shake aloe tea. Or I do have a strategy as well. Like for example, a client tells me, hey, I have a party, my buffet at night.

Okay. So your breakfast, you have your shake aloe tea. For your lunch, eat your protein with your veggies. For your snack, still shake it. Then for dinner, finish your caloric limit for the day.

Philippe: This is an important question for, I think, 90% of our audience here. At night, if they drink alcohol, does it cancel out all of this?

Maps:  I would say, if you’re trying to build muscle, yes, it will cancel it out.

Philippe: So sayang.

Maps: Sayang din. Kasi workout ka ng workout, di ba? You’re trying to build muscle, then you’re gonna drink alcohol. It actually inhibits the growth of muscle. So sayang.

Philippe: Di ba kasi this is our, it’s a Filipino thing. Kailangan ko uminom. Right? Kailangang shot. Kailangan may assembling line at the end of the day, di ba? Oh, I worked out, I worked,

I had my protein shake or I had my Herbalife shake. Pwede na. It just, sayang lang, no? All that effort and then you cancel out. What about people that smoke?

Maps:  Well, that’s another health issue on its own. At the end of the day, if you wanna live a healthier lifestyle, then you have to start living that kind of life and let go of yung vices na ganon.

Philippe: So bakit?Kasi vices, smoke, vape, ano pa, alcohol, ayun naman yung ano, that’s the most, it’s the most accessible vices kasi.

Maps: Right?

Philippe:  Alcohol, you can get anywhere, literally, 7-Eleven, I think, vape, are more sales in vape than cigarettes these days. So, well, it is what it is.

Maps: It is what it is, but you know, at the end of the day, you have to ask yourself, eto, I always ask my clients, ano ba talaga yung goals mo? And why? Because some people can say like, oh, I have goals of, you know, losing 5, 10 pounds, whatever.

But then, I ask them, why? Then they’re like, oh nga, no, why do I want to? What’s the deeper reason in that? It’s the same as when I started my goals of, like, revenge body. At the end of the day, why? Because I want to be better.

Maps: I want to be healthier. I want to live a longer life, a healthier life. So slowly, you have to let go of those vices if you do want to live that healthier life.

Philippe:  Great wisdom by Maps over here.  Thank you for coming all the way from Parañaque.

Maps: Thank you.

Philippe: For this podcast, we enjoyed your insights and a lot of advice and tips. I hope people would follow your footsteps. Hindi lang revenge body. But hey, from every breakup, there’s something good that happens.

Most of the people that we asked, that point of, you know, that monumental moment was a breakup. Pero, they are at where they are, where they deserve to be. So, thank you very much.

Maps: Thank you so much also for inviting me.

Philippe: And then, we’ll invite you for other sessions as well because health is not a one-time thing. It’s everyday. It’s a lifestyle.

Maps: It’s a constant work in progress. And if I may say so, like, your transformation is not just for yourself. It can inspire others to have their transformations as well.

Philippe: Love that. Thank you, Maps.
