Podcast Transcript

Philippe: People right now are afraid AI is going to take their jobs.

Mentor Dolores: Yes

Philippe: We’re talking about writers, artists, programmers like myself.

Mentor Dolores: Yes, hindi pa nila naiintindihan. Ako ganun yung nakikita ko sa daughter ko. She doesn’t grasp the idea yet. Pero when you come to to think of the reality of things, it’s going to ruin my career if I will not accept the fact that AI is here.

I am Mentor Dolores and I am a certified learning and development professional. I mentor locally and internationally clients by doing career and leadership type of mentoring. I’ve trained a lot of aspiring VAS already. Educating people is what I my goal is.

Philippe: Everyone’s panicking right now. There’s mixed emotions. There’s mixed opinions about what AI is doing and what’s going to be.

Mentor Dolores: Maybe for them they feel like it’s a competition or replaceable thing for them. But once they realize how beautiful it is in in such a way that they use it rightfully, diba? they would be the one to promote it. Alam mo gamitan mo ng ganito,

Philippe: So right now everyone’s hype about AI.

Mentor Dolores: True

Philippe: Right? But you know what’s scary right now?

Mentor Dolores: What?

Mentor Dolores: Hindi na uso ang sabihin mon g  do not know that.

Philippe: Yeah, it’s impossible.

Mentor Dolores: You’re just you’re just lazy.

Philippe:  Yeah

Mentor Dolores: You’re just lazy. If you it it’s it doesn’t mean that if you do not know it, you’re stupid or what. Maybe there are like like we do not know anything about diba? A lot of it. But you can always use your partner, your laptop, your phone to say what is this?

Philippe: Yes, yes.

Mentor Dolores: What does it mean diba?

Philippe: Yes, lalo na with AI now?

Mentor Dolores: Yeah, exactly.

Philippe: It summarizes everything.

Mentor Dolores: Exactly. Sabi ko nga, ang sarap ng buhay ng mga kabataan ngayon. But you really just have to use it ethically.

Philippe:  Yes, true.

Mentor Dolores: That’s the key. You have to really, kasi my kid, yung bunso ko, UP,  she hates me when I when I say the word AI.

Philippe: Really? Wow.

Mentor Dolores: She’s into communication eh. Ano siya eh, iba

Philippe: Ibang thinking

Mentor Dolores: Iba. Sabi niya, mom, you’re promoting something that is not really good. Hindi kami jive, di kami nag aaway pero I’m trying to make her understand where I am at

Philippe: Yeah

Mentor Dolores: And where she is. Sabi ko, I understand your your point of view. Writer ka, I’m not a writer. I can think of ideas, but someone needs I need help.

Philippe: Yeah.

Mentor Dolores: And AI is that  tool that helps me out. But mom, what I promised her, I won’t use and do generative AI because they are also artists and I don’t promote it.

Philippe: Naku, madaming magagalit.

Mentor Dolores: I tried it once. Oo, I tried it once but I won’t mention it here. I tried it once but I didn’t like it as well. Kasi nga may anak akong artists. Enough na sa akin yung ano, writing, yung mga ganoon. But designing or creating a picture out of ano I’m stepping on there ano na eh.

Philippe: Well that’s the ano that’s the question whether it’s pride or you know

Mentor Dolores:  I think it’s not the pride it’s more on the respect with their talents. Diba? Kasi creative people tong mag to eh.

Philippe: Yeah

Mentor Dolores: Okay, just imagine Canva they tried to make it, diba? Better better. Yung mga  graphic artists nila, graphics talaga before now may component AI I don’t know how they would feel about it and there is a page called creative agency. I don’t know if it is you or cap owns it. Diba? Parang saan mo i-dra-drawing yung line between AI and the real artists. It’s a battle for them. So, I respect that.

Philippe:  Well, it’s the same if you think about it before AI, it’s the same as Photoshop and the real painters in back in the day. So, you you could really ano

Mentor Dolores: Now lang kasi sobrang bilis, diba? Parang may point na di ka naman minsan nag iisip. Totoo naman. The idea is there but the components the creating of everything wow

Philippe: Art has to evolve writing has to evolve and it’s kung ano naman yung

Mentor Dolores: Yes, how do you accept it.

Philippe: You really have to accept and evolve. Kasi kami, like me I’ve been a web developer since I was 13 12. And wala, and it’s taking over my job already. Diba?

Mentor Dolores:  I know

Philippe: So what am I going to do I don’t find it

Mentor Dolores: That’s what I want to know kasi  the AI now in justt a minute. It creates a website for you. So how how are you going to accept or adapt into that? Parang pag iniisip ko na nagagawa ko ito on my own without HTML chuva chuva.

Philippe: Yeah

Mentor Dolores:Iniisip ko kaagad, paano kaya yung mga web developers, how are they adapting and adjusting their skills now and knowledge? Kalaban mo ganito.

Philippe: Yeah.

Mentor Dolores: How how do you do it?

Philippe: Oh, in so many ways. I see I don’t see it as I’m not trying to fight AI.

Mentor Dolores: And you can’t

Philippe: I actually I evolved into something else.

Mentor Dolores: That’s good,

Philippe: You know. So, it’s I’m no longer a programmer. I’m no longer that teenager who could just code. Right now, I could do more with code because it could do it faster than me.  So, it depends on how you look at it.

Mentor Dolores: I don’t think, di pa nila naiintindihan. Ako ganoon nakikita ko sa daugher ko she doesn’t grasp the idea yet, but eventually sabi ko darating din yung  time she would realize, “Oh, that’s what my mom was telling me.” pala. Kasi siyempre andoon pan sila sa hindi realism eh. Idealism pa sila eh, diba?

Nasa ideal pa siya eh. Pero when you come to to think of the reality of things ako din naman I wouldn’t say na di ko siya gagawin noong una but it’s going to ruin my career if I will not accept the fact that AI is here so why not understand how it can you can collaborate with it use it in a way na. Ooh, this is the advantage of AI plus my knowledge.

Philippe: There you go.

Mentor Dolores: Diba?

Philippe: There you go.

Mentor Dolores: So yun, it makes life easier for me because I’m able to do something. I create something now. It’s been there for how many years, but I cannot do it because I’m I do not have the financial capacity. For example, if I tell you, hey, Philippe, can you create me something? Something like, okay, here’s the cost. Phillip, that’s just an idea. Diba?

Philippe: Yes

Mentor Dolores: Parang okay, sige, hanggang dito nalang ako. Okay. Even if there is AI limitations, I saw it eh, hanggang dito lang ako. Di Ko kayang, kasi you need to have the budget as well. So now you can see where you can grow, you know, progressively, slowly and surely. And then eventually you will need people na.

Yeah. Like if you can collaborate, okay, your idea is the same idea of mine, ba’t naman tayo magco-compete. Why don’t we just merge on that and say you know lumalawak pa yung network mo.

Philippe: And also it begs to differ because right now they don’t seem to realize that because of AI there are new skill sets that’s being created out there.  So it doesn’t mean it’s not only accepting AI it’s also accepting what you can do with it to evolve into something different.

So, for example, people are afraid like accountants, CPAs, they’re afraid now. They’re very they’re very I made a short reel about it from a podcast. Andaming nagalit andaming sinabi. Si AI ba yung pupunta ng BIR para mag file ng ganyan

Mentor Dolores: Nakakahon kasi, nakakahon pa yung ideas nila.

Philippe: It’s not about that. It’s just I do understand the majority of people when you say AI it’s going to they think it’s going to be they’re going to be replaced. They can they don’t understand that hey AI can help me more.

 Mentor Dolores: Yes. Yes

Philippe: Diba? .

Mentor Dolores: When I said nakakahon pa, di pa nila nae-explore maybe for them they feel like it’s a competition or replaceable thing for them but once they realize how beautiful it is in in such a way that they use it rightfully Sila pa ang propromote diba? They would be the one to promote it alam mo gamitan mo yan ng ganito because you position yourself better

Philippe: Yeah

Mentor Dolores: You take advantage of that opportunity na eto di marunong to, ito din. Opportunity to.

Philippe: And then rewind back before AI. What what was there before AI?

Mentor Dolores: It was already a tool. It’s not just being used as AI. It was hyped now because madali siyang tandaan AI.

Philippe: Yeah.

Mentor Dolores: But it was and the same thing that I say it’s been there. We just didn’t call it AI. It’s a tool, a software. It made it easier because this software they made it non technical people can create something na basic man lang and that’s where AI comes in because nawala yung mga coding coding for an ordinary person to create something like the website I created I didn’t need someone to help me.

But definitely I cannot compare my website to people who knows the coding and things like that I know where my my position is or I know my position. Di ko pu-pwedeng ilaban sa iyo na, di Philippe kayang gawin niyan ang ginagawa mo.

Mentor Dolores: I’m not even that technical person AI created it for me because of the idea but I cannot say it’s seamless it doesn’t have problems I can see the problem, oh okay, eto limitations niya.  I cannot do this and that and that whatsoever. Di ko siya pwedeng gawing enterprise type.

Philippe: Yeah

Mentor Dolores: Kasi nga it depends also on your capacity to pay based on the subscription as well and maybe the type of platform that you’re also using. So may intervention parin ang taong knowledgeable for you to say the full blast of your program or idea can really work to the tea. Diba? Even nga yung website na magaganda nag ka crush pa eh.

Philippe: Yes.

Mentor Dolores: So yun.

Philippe: It really depends on how they use it and everyone’s everyone’s panicking right now. There’s mixed emotions. There’s mixed opinions about what AI is doing and what’s going to be. And they’re not really talking about rewinding back

Mentor Dolores: Yeah

Philippe: In history. Every time there’s a new technology, na ha-hype, there’s mixed opinions, but who uses them?

Mentor Dolores: Yeah.

Philippe: So, right now, everyone’s hype about AI.

Mentor Dolores: True.

Philippe: Right? But who’s the one using it properly? Not everyone. Just like the internet.

Mentor Dolores: Yep.

Philippe: Back then when I was when I was 12 years old, we couldn’t afford internet. We couldn’t afford I couldn’t afford a computer. I was the only kid at school who would stay after after hours just to do research to explore and everything. There was no one else.

Mentor Dolores: Yes.

Philippe: So compare me with with my classmates previously in the same school.

Mentor Dolores: Yeah.

Philippe: What are you doing right now? I’m I’m probably right now I’m no longer a programmer. I’ve evolved into something else.  Not only as a when it comes to the business side of things, but when it comes to doing my craft, iba na eh? I’m AI empowered na.

Mentor Dolores: True.

Philippe:  Right. I’m knowledge empowered. But before AI, I’m already knowledge empowered because I used when YouTube came to be about, right? Andaming free knowledge. So people are like panicking. Oh, free knowledge, free education. What’s going to happen to schools? Then teachers had mixed emotions. Professor like, no, what is it going to teach you? University of YouTube. That’s nothing. You need formal education.

Mentor Dolores: True. True.

Philippe: But right now, even with YouTube, even with all the information on the internet, how so sa sobrang dami, with the abundance of information, not everyone’s using it properly.

Mentor Dolores: Correct.

Philippe: They’re not applying it to their life. They’re they’re only they’re only giving out their angry opinions “di yan, di ganyan yan”  about eventually the quiet person who’s staying after school, researching, studying it, applying it to to his or her life is out there creating something amazing, naiiwan yung galit sa mundo, galit sa  AI. Do you know the one thing that they’re not talking about right now?

Mentor Dolores: What?

Philippe: People right now are afraid AI is going to take their jobs. We’re talking about writers, artists, programmers like myself.

Mentor Dolores: Yes.

Philippe: Accountants.

Mentor Dolores: Accountants.

Philippe: VA’s.

Mentor Dolores: Yes.

Philippe: They’re so afraid of that. But you know what’s scary right now?

Mentor Dolores: What?

Philippe:  When robotics gets into the picture, that’s when construction companies are going to start worrying. That’s when the police force or the authorities are going to be like, “Oh my god, sa China nga may humanoid na, nauna pa sila kay Tesla na mag release ng mga humanoids na nag tratraffic, nag sosolve ng traffic.

Nawawala na yung mga ibang pulis na di na sila kailangan mag manage ng traffic o follow a criminal cause they’re using robot dogs. everything. And then we have self-driving cars. That’s been happening for the past 15 years. And it’s going to happen here.  Look at the shift to electric right now. Everything is is going crazy. What if AI now can drive you?

Mentor Dolores: And it’s happening already in the States. I have a friend FB. Pinakita niya, nag FB live siya, it’s a driveless car. Look, Miss D, we’re riding this driveless car. It’s the first time. It’s scary, but it’s cool.

Philippe: Here’s the thing with construction companies right now yung mga construction workers. They could only work as much as 8 hours per day na may pahinga or kung minsan pag nag overtime sila , sabihin natin 16 hours twice a day.

A humanoid can work construction 24 hours a day, mag chacharge lang yan ng 30 minutes. And they’re they’re afraid of AI right now. Wait till it hits our streets physically. Uh caregivers, mawawalan sila ng, to be honest, I’m going to say bluntly, caregivers, nurses, humanoids can work 24 hours.

Mentor Dolores: Yeah.

Philippe: But people should think, na okay, construction worker ako, foreman ako, ba’t kailangan ko ng robot para gawin yung trabaho, eh mawawalan ng trabaho yung iba but they should think differently. They should be like, okay, thank God they could work 24 hours. Now they could build even taller buildings.

Mentor Dolores: Yeah.

Philippe: Now they could.
